FAQ

Everything about StudioMotion, building websites with AI, web design, e-commerce, motion, SEO and connecting Claude, Cursor, Lovable and ChatGPT.

Getting started with StudioMotion

What is StudioMotion?

StudioMotion is an MCP server and theme library at cambouch.com. It gives AI tools like Claude, Cursor, Lovable and ChatGPT agency-grade animated sections and complete website themes — motion graphics, 3D, interface effects and full retail-ready layouts — so the sites you build with AI actually look designed.

How do I start using StudioMotion?

Create a free account at cambouch.com, then follow the step-by-step guide at /connect to add the MCP server to your AI tool. Once connected, your assistant can list styles, search sections, fetch complete source code and compose full themes on your behalf.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. StudioMotion is built for people who build with AI. You describe what you want in plain language, and your AI tool retrieves production-quality code through the MCP server and installs it into your project.

What can I build with StudioMotion?

Marketing sites, landing pages, e-commerce storefronts, SaaS sites, portfolios, developer-tool sites, editorial pages and more. The library covers 233 complete themes and 95 animated sections across 37 visual styles.

Is StudioMotion a website builder?

No. StudioMotion is a design and code library that your AI tool uses. You keep building in Lovable, Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT — StudioMotion supplies the agency-grade design and motion code those tools are missing.

What makes StudioMotion different from a template marketplace?

Traditional marketplaces sell static files you adapt yourself. StudioMotion is built for AI workflows: your assistant searches the catalog, fetches full working source through MCP, and adapts colors, fonts and content to your project automatically.

How big is the StudioMotion library?

The library currently holds 233 complete themes — including 100 retail themes across ten e-commerce verticals — plus 95 animated sections in 37 visual styles. New designs are added continuously.

What is the fastest way to try it?

Sign up free, connect the MCP server to Lovable or Claude using the /connect guide, then ask your tool for the free hero-split-reveal section. You will have an animated hero running in your project in minutes.

Does StudioMotion work on mobile sites?

Yes. Every section and theme is built responsive, and motion respects reduced-motion preferences so the experience degrades gracefully on low-end devices.

Can I see examples before signing up?

Yes. The homepage shows live animated examples, the /themes gallery shows every theme with a cover preview, and /catalog lets you browse all styles and sections with live previews — no account needed.

What do I need before connecting?

Just a StudioMotion account and an AI tool that supports MCP (Claude, Cursor, Lovable) or Custom GPT Actions (ChatGPT). The connection uses OAuth sign-in — no API keys to copy.

Where do I manage my account?

Your account page at cambouch.com/account shows your plan, remaining monthly theme downloads, your purchased themes, usage statistics and every connected OAuth client.

Plans, pricing and billing

What do I get for free?

The Free plan includes exactly one complete template (hero-split-reveal) plus the design tokens tool. Every premium section and theme requires a paid plan or a one-time purchase.

What does Pro include?

Pro is US$49 per month. It unlocks all 95 premium sections and includes five new complete themes per calendar month (UTC), shared across ZIP downloads, MCP and ChatGPT Actions. Themes you have already unlocked can be downloaded again without using a credit.

Can I buy a single theme instead of subscribing?

Yes. Individual themes cost US$39 each through checkout. A purchase gives you that theme permanently, with free repeat downloads, regardless of any subscription.

Do unused Pro theme downloads roll over?

No. The five new-theme allowance resets at the start of each UTC calendar month and unused credits do not carry over.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

You can manage or cancel your subscription from the customer portal linked on the pricing page. If you cancel, you stay Pro until the end of the paid period, then drop back to Free.

What counts as a theme download?

Retrieving a theme you have never unlocked before — via ZIP export, MCP compose_theme or ChatGPT Actions — uses one credit. Re-downloading a theme you already unlocked is always free.

Is there a refund policy?

Because themes are delivered as instant digital downloads, purchases are generally final. If something is genuinely broken, reach out from your account page and we will make it right.

Do you offer team or agency plans?

Pro is per account. Agencies typically give each builder their own Pro account, since connections and download allowances are personal. Contact us from your account page for larger arrangements.

What payment methods do you accept?

Checkout is handled by Stripe and accepts major cards. The seller is Cambouch, based in Sweden.

Will my price change?

Your subscription renews at the price you signed up for unless we notify you in advance of a change. Cancel any time from the customer portal.

Can I upgrade from a single theme purchase to Pro?

Yes. Themes you bought stay yours forever, and Pro adds the monthly allowance and all premium sections on top.

Why is there a monthly theme limit on Pro?

The limit keeps the catalog sustainable while still covering real agency workloads — five new complete sites per month is more than most studios ship. Heavy users can buy additional themes for $39 each.

Connecting your AI tools

Which AI tools can connect?

Claude, Cursor and Lovable connect via MCP. ChatGPT connects as a Custom GPT using the Actions (OpenAPI) adapter. All clients use the same server-validated Free/Pro rules.

How do I connect?

Follow the step-by-step guide at /connect — it walks through adding the MCP URL https://cambouch.com/mcp, approving the OAuth sign-in and verifying your plan inside the tool.

Do I need to share my password or API key?

No. StudioMotion uses OAuth: you sign in once in your browser and the tool receives its own scoped access token. Never paste your password anywhere, and don't share your session tokens — connections are personal to your account.

How do I disconnect a client or see who is connected?

Your account page lists every connected OAuth client, and you can revoke any of them with one click. Revoking stops that tool's access immediately.

What is the StudioMotion MCP server URL?

The MCP endpoint is https://cambouch.com/mcp. It speaks Streamable HTTP with OAuth — paste it into any MCP-compatible client.

Can I use StudioMotion in several tools at once?

Yes. One account works across Lovable, Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT simultaneously. Your plan and theme allowance are shared across all of them.

Is the connection secure?

Yes. Connections use OAuth with scoped tokens, all traffic is over HTTPS, and you can revoke any client instantly from your account page.

Why does my tool ask me to sign in again?

OAuth tokens expire. When a tool prompts you to reconnect, approve the sign-in again — it takes seconds and your plan and unlocked themes are untouched.

Can my whole team use one connection?

No. Connections are personal to your account. Each teammate should connect StudioMotion with their own account so allowances and licenses stay correct.

Does StudioMotion see my prompts or my site's code?

The server receives the tool calls your assistant makes (searches, section requests, theme compositions) — not your whole conversation. See the privacy policy at /privacy for details.

Using StudioMotion with Claude

How do I connect StudioMotion to Claude?

Open Claude's connector settings, add a custom remote connector named StudioMotion, paste https://cambouch.com/mcp, then sign in and approve. Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan and workspace settings.

What can Claude do with StudioMotion?

Claude can list styles, search sections, fetch complete section source code, list all 233 themes and compose a full theme with your brand colors and typography — all through natural language.

What should I ask Claude first?

Start with: "Use the StudioMotion connector to call get_my_plan and tell me my current access." Then ask for the free hero-split-reveal section to see the full workflow.

Can Claude install a StudioMotion theme into my project?

Yes. Ask Claude to compose or retrieve a theme and add it to your codebase with its required dependencies. Claude writes the files, wires the styles and adapts the content.

Why does Claude say I only have one template?

That is the Free plan working correctly. Premium sections and themes appear once your connected account has an active Pro subscription or has purchased the theme.

Using StudioMotion with Cursor

How do I connect StudioMotion to Cursor?

Open Cursor's MCP settings, add StudioMotion as a remote HTTP MCP server with the URL https://cambouch.com/mcp, then complete the OAuth sign-in and approve access.

What is the best Cursor workflow with StudioMotion?

Ask Cursor to search sections for the pattern you need (hero, pricing, gallery), fetch the source with get_section, then let it adapt the code to your project's tokens and components.

Can Cursor compose a full theme for me?

Yes. With Pro, ask Cursor to call compose_theme with your chosen theme, brand name, colors and typography. The composed result counts against your monthly allowance like any download.

Does StudioMotion work with Cursor's agent mode?

Yes. Agent mode can chain StudioMotion tools — search, fetch, install, adjust — in one flow, which is ideal for building a full page from several sections.

Using StudioMotion with Lovable

How do I connect StudioMotion to Lovable?

In Lovable, open Connectors, click + and choose MCP server. Name it StudioMotion, paste https://cambouch.com/mcp, keep OAuth authentication, then click Add & authorize and approve the sign-in. The full walkthrough is at /connect.

What should I build first in Lovable with StudioMotion?

Ask for the free hero-split-reveal section on your homepage. It is included in Free and shows the full loop: retrieve, install, adapt to your colors.

Can StudioMotion themes be uploaded to Lovable?

Yes. Theme ZIP downloads are standalone React + Tailwind packages you can upload into a Lovable project, or you can let Lovable fetch sections directly through the MCP connector.

Why is the MCP option greyed out in Lovable?

Ask your workspace admin to enable custom MCP servers in Connectors → Admin settings → Chat connectors. If all remote connectors are disabled, the admin also needs to enable them in Privacy & security.

Does StudioMotion publish my Lovable site for me?

No. StudioMotion supplies design and code. Publishing stays in Lovable's hands — you publish from your Lovable project as usual.

Using StudioMotion with ChatGPT

How does ChatGPT connect to StudioMotion?

ChatGPT uses a Custom GPT with OpenAPI Actions rather than the MCP URL. Import the specification from https://cambouch.com/api/public/actions/openapi.json in the GPT editor under Configure → Actions.

Is the ChatGPT setup different from MCP?

Yes. You create a Custom GPT, import the OpenAPI spec, and configure OAuth with a dedicated ChatGPT client using the exact callback URL the GPT editor shows. Full steps are at /connect.

What can the ChatGPT integration do?

The same core operations as MCP: list styles, search sections, get section code, check your plan, list themes and compose themes — subject to the same Free/Pro rules and monthly allowances.

Why doesn't ChatGPT use the MCP URL directly?

ChatGPT Custom GPTs speak OpenAPI Actions, not MCP. StudioMotion maintains a dedicated Actions adapter so the Free/Pro gates and theme allowances stay identical across every tool.

Can ChatGPT build and publish a whole site for me?

ChatGPT generates files and guidance; it does not publish a site for you. You take the composed theme or sections into your own project or a builder like Lovable to ship.

Themes and downloads

What exactly is in a theme download?

A complete, standalone React + Tailwind package: the theme's colors, typography, sections with full working code and sample content. Upload it into Lovable, hand it to Claude or Cursor, or run it in your own project.

How many themes are there?

233 complete themes, including 100 retail themes across ten e-commerce verticals (fashion, supplements, athletics, outdoor, beauty, food, home, electronics, kids & pets, art) and a Developer & Tech SaaS collection.

Can I use themes in client work?

Yes — downloaded themes are meant for building real websites, including for clients. What you may not do is resell or redistribute the source code itself as a competing template or theme product.

Are the sample products and prices real?

No. Retail themes come with realistic fictional sample content (names, products, prices) so pages look complete out of the box. Replace it with your own catalog when you build.

What about the 3D and video templates?

3D and motion-graphics templates use standard browser technologies (WebGL, HTML5 video). Some devices and low-end browsers may limit 3D performance; the code degrades gracefully.

How do I download a theme?

Open the theme in the /themes gallery, customize colors and typography if you like, and download the ZIP. Pro downloads use your monthly allowance; purchased themes are always free to re-download.

Can I customize a theme before downloading?

Yes. The theme builder lets you set brand colors, typography and section choices, and the live preview updates before you spend a download credit.

What format are theme downloads?

A ZIP containing a standalone Vite + React + Tailwind project with the theme's sections, styles and sample content, ready to run or hand to an AI tool.

Do themes work without an AI tool?

Yes. A downloaded theme is a normal React project — run it with npm install and npm run dev, or deploy it to any static host.

How often are new themes added?

New designs are added continuously. The gallery shows the newest themes first, so check /themes regularly.

Can I request a theme?

Yes — reach out from your account page with the industry or style you need. Requests directly shape what gets designed next.

What is the difference between a section and a theme?

A section is one animated building block (a hero, a marquee, a pricing block). A theme is a complete site composition: multiple sections, a color system, typography and sample content.

Sections, styles and the catalog

What is a StudioMotion section?

A section is a complete, animated page block — hero, marquee, gallery, pricing, testimonial, footer and more — delivered as full working source code that your AI tool installs into your project.

How many sections and styles exist?

The catalog holds 95 premium sections across 37 visual styles, plus the one free section (hero-split-reveal). Browse everything with live previews at /catalog.

How do I find the right section?

Use the search and filters at /catalog, or ask your AI tool to call search_sections with a description like "kinetic typography hero" or "product marquee".

Can I preview a section before using it?

Yes. Every catalog entry has a live animated preview — including 3D and video sections — so you see the motion before spending anything.

What are design tokens?

Design tokens are the named colors, fonts and spacing values a theme uses. The get_design_tokens tool lets your AI read them so new sections match your existing design exactly.

Do sections adapt to my brand?

Yes. Sections are built on tokens, so when your AI tool installs one it can map your brand colors and fonts onto it instead of shipping default styling.

Are sections accessible?

Sections respect reduced-motion preferences and use semantic markup. As with any site, run your own accessibility pass before launch.

Can I combine sections from different styles?

Yes — that is the intended workflow. Pick a hero from one style and a gallery from another; the token system keeps them coherent. The theme builder is built for exactly this.

Licensing and commercial use

Can I use StudioMotion themes for client projects?

Yes. Building real websites for yourself or clients is exactly what the licenses are for.

Can I resell StudioMotion themes?

No. You may not resell or redistribute the source code itself as a competing template, theme or section product.

Who owns the site I build?

You do. The site you ship is yours; the license covers use of the underlying theme and section code in your projects.

Can I use a theme on multiple sites?

A purchased or unlocked theme can be used in your projects, including client work. Distributing the raw source as a product is the one thing off-limits.

Do I need to credit StudioMotion?

No attribution is required on sites you ship.

Can I modify the code?

Absolutely. The code is meant to be adapted — change anything, and let your AI tool help.

Understanding MCP

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI tools call external tools and data sources. Instead of copy-pasting code, your assistant calls StudioMotion's tools directly and receives structured results.

Why does MCP matter for web design?

Because design quality lives in the code, not the prompt. With MCP, your AI retrieves complete, tested, animated source instead of improvising markup — which is why MCP-built pages look designed rather than generated.

What tools does the StudioMotion MCP server expose?

Eight tools: list_styles, list_sections, search_sections, get_section, get_design_tokens, get_my_plan, list_themes and compose_theme.

What is the difference between MCP and an API?

An API is built for developers; MCP is built for AI assistants. MCP describes each tool in language the model understands, so your assistant knows when and how to call it without you writing integration code.

Is MCP secure?

StudioMotion's MCP server uses OAuth, so each tool gets its own scoped token after you approve access in your browser. You can revoke any client from your account page at any time.

Do I pay per MCP call?

No. Browsing tools (list, search, tokens, plan) are free. Only retrieving premium section code or composing a new theme is gated by your plan or purchases.

Can I build my own MCP server?

Yes — MCP is an open protocol. If you want agency-grade design tools without building them, that is exactly what StudioMotion already provides.

What is Streamable HTTP in MCP?

It is the modern remote transport for MCP: the client talks to a single HTTPS endpoint (https://cambouch.com/mcp) instead of launching a local process, which is what makes one-click OAuth connections possible.

Building websites with AI

Can AI really build a professional website?

Yes — with two caveats. AI is excellent at structure, code and iteration, but its default design taste is generic. Pairing an AI builder with a design library like StudioMotion is what closes the gap between 'generated' and 'designed'.

Why do AI-built websites all look the same?

Models converge on safe defaults: the same fonts, the same purple gradients, the same hero-layout-cards-footer pattern. Breaking out requires giving the AI real design material — distinctive sections, motion and a strong token system.

What is the best workflow for building a site with AI?

Define the goal and audience first, pick a visual direction (or a theme), then build section by section with specific feedback. Vague prompts produce vague sites; concrete references produce sharp ones.

How do I make my AI-built site look designed?

Start from a strong theme or section library, commit to one typeface pairing and one accent color, use real content early, and add motion deliberately. StudioMotion exists to make the first two steps instant.

Should I use AI to write my website copy?

Use it for drafts, not finals. AI copy is competent but interchangeable; your headline should say something only you would say. Rewrite the hero and calls to action in your own voice.

How do I give an AI good design feedback?

Describe the feeling and the reference, not just the defect: 'too corporate, more like a fashion editorial' beats 'make it better'. Point at specific sections and name the quality you want.

What can AI not do well for my website?

Taste, brand judgment, photography and final polish. AI assembles; you curate. The best AI-built sites have a human making the ten decisions that matter.

How long does it take to build a site with AI?

A landing page: an afternoon. A full marketing site: a few days of iteration. An e-commerce storefront with real products: a week or two. The design library you start from is the biggest speed factor.

Is it cheating to use themes with AI?

No — it is how professional studios work. Agencies start from proven systems and customize. A theme plus AI customization gives you agency process at solo-builder speed.

How do I keep my AI site fast?

Use optimized images, avoid autoplaying heavy video above the fold, keep 3D to one showcase per page and test on a real phone. StudioMotion sections are built with these constraints in mind.

What should I build first: design or content?

Content. Even rough real content exposes what the design must do. Themes with realistic sample content (like StudioMotion's) let you design against something truthful before your final copy exists.

How do I choose between AI builders?

Pick by workflow: Lovable for hosted full-stack apps, Cursor for code-first control, Claude for reasoning-heavy builds, ChatGPT for guided generation. StudioMotion connects to all four, so your design library travels with you.

Prompting AI for better design

How do I prompt an AI to make a beautiful website?

Name the audience, the mood and two or three concrete references ('dark editorial, like a fashion magazine, with oversized type'). Then attach real design material — a StudioMotion theme or section — so the AI has something excellent to work from.

What is the best prompt for a hero section?

Describe the message first, the motion second: 'A hero for a running-shoe brand. Headline about speed. Bold kinetic type that reveals on load, lime accent on black.' Then fetch a proven hero via StudioMotion instead of asking the AI to invent one.

How do I get consistent design across pages?

Give the AI a token system — named colors, fonts and spacing — and insist every new section uses it. StudioMotion's get_design_tokens tool exists for exactly this.

Why does my AI keep adding purple gradients?

Because they are statistically safe in training data. Ban them explicitly, name your actual palette in hex, and provide sections that already embody your direction.

How specific should design prompts be?

Specific about intent, loose about implementation. 'An editorial product grid with generous whitespace and a hover reveal' gives the AI room; pixel-dictating every margin does not.

Can I prompt for animations?

Yes, but describe the feeling: 'headline that assembles letter by letter', 'products that drift in on scroll'. For complex motion, retrieve a tested animated section rather than asking the AI to write physics from scratch.

What prompt gets me a full theme fast?

With StudioMotion connected: 'List StudioMotion themes and recommend one for a specialty coffee brand, then compose it with my brand name, a warm cream palette and a serif display face.' One prompt, full theme.

How do I fix 'AI look' in an existing site?

Replace the generic hero with a distinctive animated one, set a real type pairing, add one signature motion moment, and delete every gradient you did not choose. Small surgical swaps beat a full rebuild.

Web design fundamentals

What makes a website look professionally designed?

Restraint and rhythm: one type system, one accent color used with intent, consistent spacing, real photography, and motion that guides attention instead of decorating. Professional design is mostly what you leave out.

What is the most important part of a homepage?

The hero. Visitors decide in seconds whether to stay, so the hero must say what you offer, to whom, and why it matters — with one clear action. Everything else is supporting evidence.

How many fonts should a website use?

Two: one for display (headlines) and one for body text. Three is the absolute maximum. A single well-paired family set beats a drawer full of typefaces.

How many colors should a website use?

A background, a text color, one accent, and neutrals. The accent should be rare enough that it always means something — a button, a link, a highlight.

What is whitespace and why does it matter?

Whitespace is the empty space between elements, and it is what makes design feel expensive. Crowded layouts read as cheap regardless of how nice the components are. When in doubt, double the spacing.

What is visual hierarchy?

The order in which the eye reads a page, controlled by size, weight, color and position. Every page should have one obvious most-important thing; if everything shouts, nothing is heard.

What is a design system?

A shared set of tokens (colors, fonts, spacing) and components (buttons, cards, sections) used consistently across a site. It is what makes ten pages feel like one product.

What makes a website feel premium?

Generous spacing, confident typography, a disciplined palette, fast load times, and motion with intent. Premium is a feeling of care — nothing accidental, nothing generic.

What are the most common web design mistakes?

Too many fonts, too many colors, walls of centered text, stock-photo clichés, carousels nobody asked for, and motion that slows the page instead of guiding the eye.

How long should a homepage be?

As long as it takes to convince, and not a screen more. For most products that is a hero, proof, three to five supporting sections and a final call to action.

Should my site be dark or light?

Match your brand and content. Dark suits dramatic, technical and luxury brands; light suits editorial, wellness and most retail. Commit fully — half-dark sites look broken, not balanced.

What is above the fold and does it still matter?

The part of the page visible before scrolling. It matters enormously: it carries your entire first impression. Put your sharpest headline, strongest visual and primary action there.

Color for websites

How do I choose a color palette for my website?

Start with your brand's personality, pick one accent color that expresses it, then build neutrals around it. Test the accent on buttons and links — if calls to action pop without shouting, you have it right.

What is a good accent color for a tech site?

Electric lime, signal orange and vivid blue all read as modern and technical on dark backgrounds. The specific hue matters less than using exactly one, consistently.

How do I use color accessibly?

Body text needs a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background (3:1 for large text). Check your accent on both light and dark surfaces — bright accents often fail on white.

Should my brand color be my website background?

Usually no. Brand colors work hardest as accents. A full-strength brand-color background exhausts the eye and leaves you nowhere to go for emphasis.

What colors convert best on buttons?

The one that contrasts most with its surroundings — there is no universal 'best converting color'. A lime button wins on a black site and disappears on a lime one.

How many shades of gray do I need?

Three to five: page background, card background, borders, muted text, body text. Define them once as tokens and never invent a new gray mid-project.

What is the 60-30-10 rule?

A classic interior-design ratio that works on the web: roughly 60% dominant neutral, 30% secondary surface color, 10% accent. It keeps palettes disciplined without feeling empty.

How do I make a dark theme that does not look gloomy?

Use a rich near-black (not pure #000), keep text slightly off-white, and give your accent real saturation. Dark themes live or die on contrast discipline.

Can I use gradients?

Yes, deliberately: one signature gradient as a brand device is memorable; gradients on every card are wallpaper. If your AI builder added them by default, that is a sign to take control of the palette.

How do I test if my palette works?

Squint test: blur your eyes and check that the hierarchy still reads. Then view the page on a phone in daylight. If the accent still guides you to the action, the palette works.

Typography for the web

How do I choose fonts for my website?

Pick a display face with personality for headlines and a highly legible face for body text. The pair should contrast in character — a bold geometric display with a neutral sans, or an elegant serif with a clean grotesque.

What are safe font pairings?

A serif display with a sans body (editorial), a geometric sans display with a humanist body (friendly tech), or one superfamily used at different weights (minimal). Contrast with harmony is the goal.

How big should body text be?

16–18px on desktop, never below 16px on mobile, with a line height around 1.5–1.7. Small body text is the single most common readability failure on the web.

How long should lines of text be?

45–75 characters per line. Longer lines tire the eye; shorter ones feel choppy. Constrain text columns with max-width, not with small font sizes.

Should headlines be uppercase?

Only if your brand voice is loud and confident — uppercase adds volume but slows reading. For most brands, sentence case with a strong weight is sharper.

What is a type scale?

A fixed set of font sizes with a consistent ratio between steps (e.g. 12, 14, 16, 20, 24, 32, 48, 64). Using a scale keeps hierarchy coherent; inventing sizes ad hoc is how pages end up with nine nearly identical headings.

Are free fonts good enough?

Yes — many of the best web typefaces are open source. What separates amateur from professional typography is not price but sizing, spacing and restraint.

How many font weights should I load?

Two or three. Every weight is a download; regular, medium and bold cover nearly every need. Use weight for hierarchy instead of adding more sizes.

What is letter-spacing and when do I adjust it?

The space between characters. Tighten it slightly on very large headlines (-1% to -3%) and widen it on small uppercase labels (+5% to +12%). Body text almost never needs adjusting.

Do fonts affect conversion?

Indirectly but truly: legible, confident typography builds trust and keeps people reading, and reading is what converts. Decorative type in body copy measurably hurts comprehension.

Layout and spacing

What grid should I use for my website?

A 12-column grid with a max content width around 1200px covers nearly every layout. The grid is scaffolding — what matters is that everything aligns to something.

How much spacing should sections have?

Far more than feels natural: 96–160px between major sections on desktop. Sections that breathe read as premium; cramped sections read as templates.

Should I center everything?

No. Centered layouts suit heroes and calls to action; left-aligned text is easier to read for everything else. Sites that center every paragraph feel like wedding invitations.

What is the best layout for a landing page?

Hero, social proof, problem, solution, three benefits, proof again, pricing or offer, FAQ, final call to action. It is a persuasion arc, not a decoration exercise.

How wide should my content be?

Cap the main container near 1200px and text columns near 65–75 characters. Full-bleed is for images and heroes, not paragraphs.

What is an asymmetric layout and when should I use one?

A layout that deliberately breaks the grid — overlapping images, offset columns. Use it for editorial and portfolio work where surprise is the point; keep commerce and SaaS layouts predictable.

How do I make layouts work on mobile?

Design mobile first: single column, stacked sections, thumb-sized tap targets, and the same hierarchy as desktop. Every StudioMotion section is built responsive for this reason.

What is a bento grid?

A card grid of mixed sizes, popularized by Apple keynotes. Great for feature showcases; terrible for long-form content. Use one per page, not five.

How do I align mismatched content?

Give cards equal heights within a row, align text baselines where possible, and let images share aspect ratios. Misalignment reads as sloppiness even when visitors cannot name it.

Should I use carousels?

Almost never for content that matters — most visitors never see slide two. If you need to show many items, use a grid or a horizontal scroll strip with visible overflow.

Motion and animation design

Why does motion matter in web design?

Motion is how a page directs attention and expresses personality. A headline that assembles itself, a product that responds to the cursor — these are the details that make a site feel crafted rather than assembled.

How much animation is too much?

If everything moves, nothing stands out. One signature motion moment per viewport is a good rule; the rest should be subtle transitions under 300ms.

What are the essential web animations?

Hero reveal on load, scroll-triggered section entrances, hover states on interactive elements, and smooth page transitions. Master those four before reaching for anything exotic.

What is a hero reveal animation?

The choreographed entrance of your headline, image and call to action when the page loads — words sliding up, letters assembling, images unmasking. It is the single highest-impact animation on any site.

What are scroll-triggered animations?

Animations that play as elements enter the viewport. They reward scrolling and pace the story. Keep them snappy — content that fades in too slowly feels broken, not elegant.

What is kinetic typography?

Animated type: words that slide, reveal, scatter or assemble. It is the fastest way to make a headline unforgettable, and it is a StudioMotion specialty.

Should animations autoplay?

Load animations yes, ambient loops sparingly. Anything that loops forever should be calm enough to ignore — a drifting gradient, not a bouncing button.

What is easing and why does it matter?

Easing is how an animation accelerates and decelerates. Ease-out (fast start, gentle stop) feels responsive; linear motion feels robotic. Easing is the difference between animation and choreography.

How do I respect reduced-motion preferences?

Provide a calm alternative when the user's OS requests reduced motion: instant or gently faded transitions instead of movement. All StudioMotion sections ship with reduced-motion support built in.

Do animations hurt performance?

They can. Animate transform and opacity (GPU-friendly), avoid animating layout properties like width and top, and lazy-load heavy 3D or video below the fold.

What is a marquee and should I use one?

A horizontally scrolling strip of text or logos. Used once — for a client logo strip or a brand statement — it adds energy; used everywhere it becomes noise.

What animation impresses clients most?

A confident hero reveal. It is the first thing anyone sees, it signals craft immediately, and it costs less performance than almost any other showpiece.

3D on the web

Should my website use 3D?

If your product benefits from being seen in space — physical products, architecture, fashion, tech hardware — one 3D showcase is a genuine differentiator. If not, strong 2D motion beats gratuitous 3D.

What is WebGL?

The browser technology that renders GPU-accelerated 3D graphics without plugins. Libraries like Three.js and React Three Fiber build on it — which is what StudioMotion's 3D sections use.

Does 3D slow down my site?

It can. Keep 3D to one scene per page, lazy-load it when it scrolls near the viewport, simplify geometry, and always provide a static poster fallback for weak devices.

How do I make a 3D product viewer?

Use React Three Fiber with a lit, rotatable model and constrained controls. StudioMotion's 3D sections include interaction instructions you can adapt — or ask your AI tool to fetch one via MCP.

What devices struggle with 3D?

Older phones, low-end laptops and battery-saver modes. Good 3D sections detect constraints and degrade to a beautiful static image rather than stuttering.

Is 3D good for SEO?

Neutral — search engines index text, not scenes. Make sure the content around your 3D moment carries the message in real HTML text.

What is the best use of 3D on a homepage?

A single hero or product showcase that responds to the cursor. It creates an instant 'how did they do that' moment without asking the visitor to learn anything.

Can AI tools build 3D sections for me?

Yes, but 3D is where AI-generated code most often breaks. Retrieving a tested 3D section (StudioMotion has several) is far more reliable than asking a model to write a scene from scratch.

Accessibility and inclusive design

Why does web accessibility matter?

Because roughly one in six people live with a disability, because accessible sites rank and convert better, and because in many markets it is a legal requirement. Accessibility is quality, not charity.

What are the most important accessibility basics?

Sufficient color contrast, keyboard-navigable interfaces, alt text on meaningful images, visible focus states, semantic HTML, and respect for reduced-motion preferences.

What contrast ratio do I need?

WCAG AA requires 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI components. Check your accent color on every background it touches.

How do animations affect accessibility?

Motion can trigger vestibular disorders (dizziness, nausea). Honor the prefers-reduced-motion setting with calm alternatives — StudioMotion sections do this out of the box.

Do I need alt text on every image?

On every meaningful image, yes: describe what the image conveys, not what it literally is. Decorative images should have empty alt attributes so screen readers skip them.

What is semantic HTML and why does it matter?

Using elements that describe their role — header, nav, main, button — instead of generic divs. It is how screen readers, search engines and AI tools understand your page.

How do I test accessibility?

Tab through your entire site with a keyboard, run an automated checker, and test with a screen reader on your key flows. Automated tools catch about a third of issues — the rest need humans.

Are dark themes accessible?

Yes, when contrast is managed. Watch for pure white on pure black (halation) and for accent colors that pass on dark but fail when reused on light surfaces.

What is a focus state?

The visible outline showing which element has keyboard focus. Never remove it without replacing it — it is the only way keyboard users know where they are.

Does accessibility help SEO?

Yes. Semantic structure, alt text, fast rendering and clear hierarchy are exactly what search engines reward. Accessible sites are simply better-built sites.

Performance and Core Web Vitals

Why does site speed matter?

Every second of load time costs you visitors and rankings. Google uses Core Web Vitals as a ranking signal, and users abandon slow pages before your design ever gets a chance.

What are Core Web Vitals?

Google's three experience metrics: LCP (largest content loads within 2.5s), INP (page responds to input within 200ms) and CLS (layout does not jump around). Aim for green on all three.

What slows websites down most?

Unoptimized images, autoplaying video above the fold, too many fonts, heavy JavaScript, and render-blocking third-party scripts — in that order, most of the time.

How do I optimize images?

Serve modern formats (WebP/AVIF), size them to their display dimensions, lazy-load everything below the fold, and never upload a 4000px photo to display at 400px.

Do animations hurt Core Web Vitals?

Poorly built ones do. Animate transform and opacity, defer heavy scenes until they approach the viewport, and keep the hero light — StudioMotion sections follow these rules.

How many fonts can I load before it hurts?

Two families, two or three weights total, with font-display: swap. Every additional weight is render time your visitor pays for.

What is lazy loading?

Loading resources only when they are needed — images and 3D scenes as they approach the viewport, heavy components after hydration. It is the single easiest performance win on media-rich pages.

How do I test my site's speed?

Run PageSpeed Insights on your real URL and test on a mid-range phone over cellular, not just your fiber connection. Lab scores flatter; field experience is what ranks.

Should I use video backgrounds?

Sparingly. A short, muted, compressed loop can be stunning in a hero; anything longer or with audio is a performance and accessibility liability. Always provide a poster image.

What is a good page weight?

Under 1MB for a landing page is excellent; under 2MB is acceptable for media-rich pages. Many AI-built sites ship 10MB+ of unoptimized assets — do not be one of them.

SEO for AI-built websites

Can AI-built websites rank on Google?

Absolutely — Google ranks pages, not processes. What matters is unique, useful content, clean semantic HTML, fast load times and real expertise. AI is the builder; the strategy is still yours.

What are the SEO basics every site needs?

A unique title and meta description per page, one H1 that says what the page is, semantic structure, fast loading, mobile-friendliness, a sitemap, and content that actually answers what people search for.

Does Google penalize AI content?

Google penalizes unhelpful content, however it is made. Mass-produced generic pages fail; AI-assisted pages with real insight, real data and real editing rank fine.

How do I write title tags that rank?

Lead with the keyword people search, add what makes you different, stay under ~60 characters. 'Agency-Grade Web Themes for AI Builders — StudioMotion' beats 'Home'.

What is a meta description and does it matter?

The snippet under your title in search results. It does not directly rank, but it sells the click — write it like ad copy, under ~160 characters.

How important is page speed for SEO?

Core Web Vitals are a confirmed ranking signal, and speed shapes whether visitors stay long enough to convert. Beautiful and slow loses to good and fast.

What is structured data?

Machine-readable markup (JSON-LD) that tells search engines what your content is — a product, an FAQ, an organization. It powers rich results and helps AI answer engines quote you correctly.

How do I get my site indexed?

Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console, make sure robots.txt allows crawling, and earn a few links from sites that already get crawled. New domains take patience.

Do FAQs help SEO?

Yes — a thorough FAQ targets long-tail questions people actually type, and FAQ structured data makes your answers eligible for rich results and AI answer engines. That is exactly why this page exists.

What is the biggest SEO mistake on new sites?

Building pages nobody searches for. Check what people actually ask before writing, then answer it better than anyone else. Ten useful pages beat a hundred thin ones.

How long does SEO take?

Three to six months for a new domain to gain traction on competitive terms; long-tail questions can rank in weeks. SEO compounds — start now, publish consistently.

Should I blog for SEO?

Only if you can publish genuinely useful answers in your niche. A blog of AI-filler hurts more than no blog. Ten definitive guides beat fifty posts of mush.

Conversion and landing pages

What makes a landing page convert?

One audience, one promise, one action. A headline that names the outcome, proof that you deliver it, and a call to action that is impossible to miss — repeated, not multiplied.

What should my call to action say?

Describe what happens next, not the mechanism: 'Get the theme' beats 'Submit'. First person often lifts clicks ('Start my free trial') because it frames the action as the visitor's.

How many CTAs should a page have?

One goal, many placements. Repeat the same primary action after each major section; adding different competing actions splits attention and lowers all of them.

What is social proof and where does it go?

Evidence that others trust you — testimonials, logos, numbers, reviews. Place it immediately after your boldest claim, because that is exactly where doubt appears.

How long should a landing page be?

Long enough to answer every objection, short enough to stay sharp. Cheap impulse offers convert on short pages; considered purchases need the full argument.

What is the biggest conversion killer?

Confusion. If a visitor cannot tell within five seconds what you offer, who it is for and what to do next, no amount of design polish will save the page.

Do popups work?

They work on metrics and against goodwill. If you use one, make it genuinely valuable, easy to dismiss, and never show it before the visitor has seen your actual page.

How do I write a headline that converts?

Name the outcome your visitor wants, in their words, with a specific edge: 'Agency-grade websites from your AI tool' beats 'Welcome to our platform'. Clarity converts; cleverness decorates.

What is a good conversion rate?

For landing pages, 2–5% is typical, 10%+ is excellent — but benchmark against your own history, not averages. Improve the page, measure, repeat.

Should I A/B test my design?

Once you have enough traffic to reach significance (usually thousands of visits per variant), yes. Before that, your time is better spent on obvious improvements and talking to users.

E-commerce design

What makes an e-commerce site convert?

Product photography that does the selling, prices that are easy to find, trust signals near the buy button, and a checkout with zero surprises. Design's job in commerce is to remove doubt, not to show off.

What are the essential pages of an online store?

Homepage, category/collection pages, product pages, cart, checkout, about, contact, shipping & returns, and a privacy policy. Get those right before adding anything clever.

What makes a great product page?

Large, zoomable photography from several angles; a scannable description; clear price and availability; reviews; delivery and returns info near the button; and one obvious add-to-cart action.

How important is product photography?

It is the single biggest conversion factor in e-commerce. Customers cannot touch the product, so the photos must. Budget for photography before you budget for animation.

Should my store look like Amazon?

No — Amazon wins on logistics, not design. Independent stores win on brand: a distinctive look, a point of view, and an experience worth remembering. That is where themed design pays for itself.

How do I build trust in a new store?

Real photography, clear policies, visible contact information, honest product details, secure checkout badges, and reviews as soon as you have them. Trust is accumulated in details.

What is the best homepage structure for a store?

Hero with your strongest product or collection, featured categories, bestsellers, brand story, social proof, and a newsletter or offer at the end. Lead with product, not with your mission statement.

How many products should I launch with?

Enough that each category feels intentional — often 8–20 well-presented products beat 200 neglected ones. Depth of presentation beats breadth of catalog for new stores.

Do I need reviews before launch?

You need a plan for them: follow-up emails, incentives for early buyers, seeding from beta customers. Launching without reviews is fine; staying without them is not.

What payment options should I offer?

Cards at minimum, plus the wallets your audience uses (Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal). Every missing payment method is a measurable slice of abandoned checkouts.

How do I reduce cart abandonment?

Show total costs early, offer guest checkout, keep the form short, display trust signals, and send a recovery email. Surprise shipping costs at the last step are the number one killer.

Can AI build my whole store?

AI can build the storefront, structure the catalog and write draft copy — with a theme library like StudioMotion it can do so at agency quality. Product photography, pricing strategy and fulfillment remain yours.

Use a gallery-style hero that treats the products or work as art in itself. The hero sets the entire tone — invest there first and let the rest of the page support it.

What photography does a art & hobbies store need?

Process photography — hands, tools, works in progress — alongside finished pieces. Photography is your biggest conversion lever in this category — budget for it before anything decorative.

How do I build trust in a art & hobbies store?

Lead with quality and materials detail, artist stories, and clear shipping for fragile items. In this vertical, trust details sit closer to the buy button than in almost any other.

What colors work for a art & hobbies brand?

Start from a gallery-neutral base letting the work provide the color, with one signature accent. Keep the accent rare so it always means action, and test contrast on both light and dark surfaces.

What fonts suit a art & hobbies website?

Use an expressive display face with real character, balanced by a quiet body font. The pairing should carry the brand's personality in headlines while staying invisible and effortless in body text.

What is the biggest design mistake in art & hobbies e-commerce?

The classic mistake is over-designing — in this category the work is the design, and the site should be its frame. Get the fundamentals right first; effects and motion should amplify the product, never compete with it.

How do I keep a art & hobbies site fresh?

Plan for it: tie collections to creative seasons and gift moments; workshops and tutorials drive loyalty. A theme system makes these refreshes cheap because the structure stays while the content moves.

Can AI build my art & hobbies store?

Yes — connect StudioMotion to your AI tool, ask for a art & hobbies retail theme, and the AI composes a complete storefront with realistic sample products you then replace with your own catalog.

What pages does a art & hobbies store need?

Homepage, collection pages, product pages, cart and checkout, about, shipping & returns, and contact. In this vertical, add a strong story or guide page — it is what separates a brand from a listing.

SaaS and developer tool websites

What makes a great SaaS homepage?

A headline that names the outcome, a product screenshot or live demo above the fold, social proof from recognizable users, and pricing that is easy to find. SaaS buyers compare — make comparison easy and honest.

How should a developer tool website look?

Technical and credible: dark themes, mono accents, real code samples, and documentation one click away. Developers detect marketing fluff instantly — show the product working.

What is the best hero for a developer product?

A working code sample or terminal-style animation with a one-line promise. StudioMotion's Developer Tools collection (forge-terminal, sdk-laboratory) is built exactly for this.

How do I show code on my marketing site?

Real, syntax-highlighted, copyable snippets that actually run. Fake code is instantly obvious to the audience you are courting.

Should a SaaS site have a changelog page?

Yes — a public changelog signals momentum and respect for users. An interactive, well-designed changelog (like StudioMotion's release-log theme) turns maintenance into marketing.

What builds trust for a technical product?

Documentation quality, uptime transparency, real benchmarks, named customers, and a team page with actual humans. Technical buyers research deeply before they commit.

How do I market a dev tool with design?

Design is your differentiation — most dev tools look identical. A distinctive, motion-rich site tells developers you care about craft, which implies the product is crafted too.

What pages does a SaaS site need?

Homepage, features or product, pricing, docs, changelog, about, and a comparison or alternatives page if you have competitors. Each should target the searches your buyers actually make.

Should I show pricing publicly?

Almost always yes for self-serve products. Hidden pricing reads as 'expensive', and the buyers who would talk to sales will still talk to sales.

How do I design a developer portfolio or maker profile?

Lead with shipped work and what it does, not job titles. A distinctive personal site (StudioMotion's maker-profile theme is one approach) is itself proof of your abilities.

Portfolios and personal sites

What makes a portfolio stand out?

Curation and point of view. Six excellent projects with real case-study thinking beat thirty thumbnails. The portfolio itself is your first exhibit — its design is evidence.

How many projects should a portfolio show?

Four to eight, chosen for range and relevance to the work you want next. Depth per project — problem, process, outcome — matters more than count.

Should my portfolio be minimal or expressive?

Match the work. Designers of interfaces benefit from restraint that lets screenshots breathe; motion designers and art directors should let the site itself perform.

What should a case study include?

The brief, your role, the constraints, two or three key decisions with reasoning, the outcome, and what you learned. Hiring managers read for judgment, not just visuals.

Do I need a custom domain for my portfolio?

Yes. A yourname.com signals seriousness and costs less per year than a single client lunch. It is the cheapest credibility upgrade available.

How do I get my first portfolio pieces without clients?

Redesign something real and explain your reasoning, build a concept for a brand you love, or ship a side project. Self-initiated work with strong thinking counts.

Should freelancers show rates?

A starting-from price filters mismatches and saves everyone time. Exact quotes stay for conversations, but total mystery attracts tire-kickers.

How often should I update my portfolio?

Every time you ship something you are proud of, and at minimum twice a year. A stale portfolio silently tells visitors you are not busy — or not proud.

Local business and restaurant websites

What does a local business website actually need?

Five things above all: what you do, where you are, when you are open, how to contact or book, and proof you are good (reviews, photos). Everything else is optional.

What makes a great restaurant website?

The menu readable on a phone without downloading a PDF, the location and hours instantly visible, photography of the actual food and room, and a reservation link that works.

How important is mobile for local businesses?

Critical — most local searches happen on phones, often from people already nearby. If your hours, address and phone number are not tappable within seconds, you are losing walk-ins.

Should a local business bother with design quality?

Yes — it is the cheapest differentiation in local markets, where competitors' sites are usually ancient. A sharp, fast, well-designed site makes a small business look like the safe choice.

What is local SEO?

Ranking for 'near me' and city searches: a complete Google Business Profile, consistent name/address/phone everywhere, reviews with responses, and pages that mention your actual location and services.

Do I need online booking or ordering?

If competitors offer it and you do not, yes. Frictionless booking converts the intent your site creates; a phone number alone loses the after-hours customer.

How often should a local site be updated?

Whenever hours, menus or prices change — nothing erodes trust like arriving at a closed door the website swore was open. Seasonal photo refreshes keep it feeling alive.

Can AI build my restaurant or shop site?

Yes — describe your business to your AI tool with a StudioMotion theme as the design base, then replace sample content with your real menu, photos and hours. An afternoon, not a month.

Branding for websites

What is a brand, practically speaking?

The set of associations people carry about you — built from your name, voice, visuals and how consistently you show up. On the web, consistency is the brand.

Do I need a logo before building my website?

No. A clean wordmark in a well-chosen typeface carries most young brands further than a mediocre logo. Launch with type; commission the mark when the brand has earned it.

How do I find my brand's voice?

Write down how you would explain your product to a friend, then keep that tone everywhere. The gap between 'how we talk' and 'how the website talks' is where brands feel fake.

What are brand tokens?

The codified atoms of your brand: exact colors, fonts, spacing and radii as named values. Tokens are what let every page — and every AI-generated section — stay on brand automatically.

How consistent does my design need to be?

Ruthlessly. Same buttons, same spacing rhythm, same accent color, same type scale on every page. Consistency reads as competence; drift reads as chaos.

Can I rebrand my site without rebuilding?

If your site is built on tokens, yes — change the token values and the whole site follows. This is exactly how StudioMotion themes are structured, and why token-based design pays off.

What makes a brand feel premium online?

Restraint: fewer fonts, fewer colors, more space, better photography, and copy that says less with more confidence. Premium brands never beg.

Should my brand look like my competitors?

Know the category codes, then break one deliberately. Looking exactly like competitors makes you a commodity; ignoring the category entirely makes you confusing.

Content and copywriting

How do I write a good homepage headline?

Say what the visitor gets, in their language, with a specific edge. 'Agency-grade websites from your AI tool' tells me something; 'Welcome to the future of digital excellence' tells me nothing.

How long should website copy be?

As long as it is useful and not a word longer. Headlines under ten words, paragraphs under four lines, and every sentence earning its place.

Should I write features or benefits?

Benefits in headlines ('Sleep through the night'), features as evidence ('400mg magnesium glycinate'). People buy outcomes; they justify with specs.

How do I write about my own business without cringing?

Write like you talk to your best customer, then edit out the filler. Third-person corporate voice ('Our solutions leverage…') is the cringe — directness is the cure.

What is the most read part of any page?

The headline, the first line, the subheads and the button labels. Visitors scan in an F-pattern — put your argument in the scannable layer.

How do I write product descriptions that sell?

Lead with the outcome, support with specifics, answer the top three doubts (fit, quality, shipping), and keep it scannable. Adjectives sell less than details.

Should my site have a blog?

Only if you will publish genuinely useful answers in your niche consistently. A great guide a month beats weekly filler; an abandoned blog is worse than none.

How do I use AI for copy without sounding generic?

Use AI for structure and first drafts, then rewrite the headline, the opening and the calls to action yourself. Your voice in the high-stakes spots is what readers feel.

What tone should my website have?

The tone your best customers use. B2B buyers forgive playfulness less than consumers do, but everyone forgives clarity. When in doubt, be plainer and warmer.

How do I write a good About page?

Tell the true story of why you exist, show the humans, and connect it to what the visitor gets. About pages are among the most visited pages on any site — do not waste them on a mission statement.

Troubleshooting and account

My tool only sees one template — why?

That's the Free plan working correctly. Premium sections and themes appear only when your connected account has an active Pro subscription or has purchased the theme.

The connection failed or says unauthorized.

Sign out and connect again to get a fresh OAuth token, and make sure you're signed in to the same account that holds your plan. The /connect page has per-tool troubleshooting steps.

compose_theme didn't run / says I have no credits.

Composing a new theme uses one of your five monthly Pro downloads. Check your remaining allowance on your account page; already-unlocked themes remain free to retrieve.

Something still isn't working.

Check the /connect guide for your specific tool first. If you're still stuck, reach out from your account page so we can see your connection status.

Where do I see my usage statistics?

Your account page shows how many sections and themes you have retrieved this month, your remaining theme allowance, and your connected clients.

How do I revoke a connected AI tool?

On your account page, find the client in the connections list and revoke it with one click. The tool loses access immediately.

I bought a theme but can't download it again.

Repeat downloads of purchased or unlocked themes are free — sign in with the same account you used at purchase and open the theme from your account library.

The 3D preview is slow on my device.

Some devices limit WebGL performance. The delivered code degrades gracefully with poster fallbacks; in the gallery, try a desktop browser for the full effect.

My downloaded theme won't run locally.

Make sure you have a recent Node.js version, then run npm install and npm run dev in the extracted folder. If a dependency error persists, reach out from your account page with the error text.

How do I delete my account?

Contact us from your account page. Deletion removes your account and connections; purchased theme licenses are tied to the account, so download anything you want to keep first.

Choosing between AI tools

Should I build my site in Lovable, Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT?

Pick by workflow: Lovable for hosted full-stack apps you publish instantly, Cursor for code-first control in your own repo, Claude for reasoning-heavy builds and long context, ChatGPT for guided generation. StudioMotion connects to all four, so your design library travels with you.

What is the difference between an AI chatbot and an AI builder?

A chatbot talks; a builder ships. Builders like Lovable and Cursor write files, run code and deploy. Chatbots like Claude and ChatGPT plan, write and retrieve code you then apply. StudioMotion serves both through MCP and Actions.

Do I need several AI tools?

Many builders use two: one for building (Lovable or Cursor) and one for thinking (Claude or ChatGPT). Because StudioMotion works across all of them with one account, your plan and themes follow you.

Which AI tool is best for design quality?

None of them alone — models share the same generic design defaults. Design quality comes from the material you give them: a strong theme, real sections, a token system. That is the gap StudioMotion fills.

Can AI tools work together on one site?

Yes. A common pattern: plan and generate copy in Claude or ChatGPT, build in Lovable or Cursor, and pull design from StudioMotion in whichever tool you are in. The OAuth connection is per tool, per account.

What is vibe coding?

Building software by describing intent to an AI and iterating on what it produces, rather than writing code yourself. It works best when you supply strong constraints — real content, a design system, and proven components.

How do I keep AI from breaking my existing design?

Give the AI your design tokens and tell it new sections must use them, ask for changes in small scoped steps, and review diffs before accepting. StudioMotion's get_design_tokens exists so the AI reads your system instead of guessing.

Are AI-built sites maintainable?

Yes, if the code is conventional: standard frameworks, component structure, tokens instead of one-off values. StudioMotion themes are plain React + Tailwind for exactly this reason — any AI or developer can pick them up later.

What should I never delegate to AI?

Your positioning, your prices, your legal pages, and the final read of anything customers see. AI drafts; you decide. The sites that fail are the ones where nobody made the last judgment call.

How do I evaluate an AI-built design objectively?

Show it to someone for five seconds and ask what the site sells and who it is for. If they cannot answer, the hero fails — no matter how nice the code is.

Images, video and media

Where do I get good images for my website?

Your own photography first, then quality stock (used selectively), then AI-generated imagery for abstract and atmospheric needs. The worst option is the obvious stock cliché — the handshake, the laptop-with-coffee, the diverse-meeting.

Can I use AI-generated images on my site?

Yes, with judgment: they excel at abstract textures, backgrounds and conceptual imagery, and still struggle with hands, text and photorealistic products. Never use AI images that pretend to be your real product or team.

What image format should I use on the web?

WebP or AVIF for photos, SVG for logos and icons, MP4/WebM for video. Avoid PNG for photographs and never serve a 4MB hero image to a phone.

How big should website images be?

Sized to their display dimensions at 2x for retina — a hero displayed at 1600px wide needs a 3200px source, not an 8000px original. Compress everything; aim under 200KB per image.

Should I use stock photos?

Selectively. Stock works for abstract concepts and backgrounds; it fails wherever authenticity matters — your product, your team, your space. Visitors can smell generic stock instantly.

What makes good product photography?

Consistent lighting and backgrounds across the catalog, multiple angles, detail close-ups, and context shots showing scale and use. Consistency matters more than any single hero shot.

How do I use video on my website?

Short, muted, looping clips as atmosphere (5–15 seconds, compressed), with a poster fallback. Video should set a mood, not tell a story — visitors will not press play on your brand film.

What is a hero video and do I need one?

A background motion loop behind your headline. You need one only if motion expresses your brand — a studio, a fashion label, a venue. A software dashboard gains little from one.

How do I make images load fast?

Modern formats, correct dimensions, lazy loading below the fold, and a CDN. Images are usually 60–80% of page weight, so this is where performance is won or lost.

Do I need alt text for SEO or accessibility?

Both. Alt text tells screen readers and search engines what an image conveys. Write what the image means ('hand-poured candle on a linen cloth'), not what it is ('IMG_4032').

Forms, checkout and signups

What makes a form people actually complete?

Few fields, clear labels above inputs, inline validation, and an obvious submit button that says what happens. Every field you remove measurably raises completion.

How many fields should a signup form have?

Email and password, or just a social sign-in button. Everything else can be collected later. The best signup form is the one that is already over.

What is guest checkout and do I need it?

Buying without creating an account. Yes, you need it — forced account creation is one of the top reasons carts are abandoned.

How do I design a checkout that converts?

Single page or clear steps, total cost visible early, guest option, wallet payments, trust signals near the pay button, and zero surprise fees at the end.

Should I use multi-step forms?

For long forms, yes — one question per screen feels lighter than a wall of fields, and early easy questions create momentum. For short forms, one page is faster.

What is inline validation?

Checking each field as it is completed and showing errors immediately, next to the field. It beats a wall of red errors after submit by a wide margin.

How do I reduce form spam?

A honeypot field (invisible to humans) stops most bots invisibly. CAPTCHAs work but tax real users — use them only when spam is actually hurting you.

What should happen after someone submits a form?

An immediate, unambiguous confirmation on screen, then a follow-up email if appropriate. Silence after submit makes people resubmit or leave — both are failures.

Do newsletter signup forms still work?

Yes, when the offer is real: a discount, a guide, early access. 'Subscribe to our newsletter' with no reason attached converts almost nobody.

What is the best placement for a signup form?

After the visitor has a reason to care — end of a compelling page, after a free result, in the footer of content they just enjoyed. Never as the first thing a new visitor sees.

Email and marketing basics

Do I need email marketing for my website?

If you sell anything, yes. Email is the only audience you own — algorithms and rankings can vanish, your list cannot. Start collecting addresses from day one.

What should my first email sequence be?

A welcome email that delivers what you promised, a second that tells your story and best proof, and a third with your strongest offer. Three emails, one week, then a sustainable rhythm.

How often should I email my list?

As often as you have something worth sending — for most small brands that is two to four times a month. Consistency matters more than frequency.

What is a lead magnet?

Something valuable given in exchange for an email address: a guide, a discount, a template, early access. It works because it trades value for permission instead of begging for it.

How do I get my first 100 subscribers?

Put a genuine offer on your highest-traffic page, share it where your audience already gathers, and deliver something good enough that early subscribers forward it. There is no trick that beats a good offer.

Should my website have a blog or a newsletter?

A newsletter if you want a relationship, a blog if you want search traffic — ideally the blog feeds the newsletter. Pick the one you can sustain; an abandoned either is worse than none.

What marketing channel works best for new sites?

The one where your specific audience already gathers: communities for dev tools, Instagram/TikTok for visual products, search for considered purchases, email for everything after. One channel done well beats five done thinly.

How do I write a good call to action in an email?

One email, one action, stated as the outcome: 'See the new collection' beats 'Click here'. Multiple competing links split clicks and halve results.

What is a good email open rate?

For a healthy small list, 35–50% is normal; below 20% suggests list or subject-line problems. Trend your own numbers rather than chasing benchmarks.

How do I avoid the spam folder?

Use a verified sending domain, ask before adding anyone, make unsubscribing easy, and send content people actually open. Deliverability is a reputation you spend with every send.

Domains, hosting and launching

How do I choose a domain name?

Short, sayable, and spellable after hearing it once. .com still carries the most trust; a distinctive .ai, .studio or .shop beats a hyphenated .com. Avoid anything you have to explain.

Do I need hosting if I build with Lovable?

No — Lovable hosts what you build with one-click publish, including custom domains. StudioMotion theme downloads are standard React projects you can also host anywhere static sites run.

What is a custom domain and why does it matter?

Your own address (yourbrand.com instead of yourbrand.somebuilder.com). It is the cheapest credibility upgrade that exists — under $20 a year — and every serious site should have one.

What is SSL and do I need it?

The encryption that puts the padlock in the address bar. Yes, unconditionally — browsers flag non-SSL sites as unsafe, and search engines downrank them. Any modern host provides it free.

What should I check before launching my site?

Every link, every form, the mobile layout, page titles and descriptions, real content in place of samples, analytics connected, and the primary flow (buy, book, sign up) tested end to end on a phone.

How do I launch with impact instead of silence?

Build a small list before launch, prepare three to five posts showing what you made and why, and tell every community you genuinely belong to. A launch is a story, and stories need an audience warmed up in advance.

What is a staging or preview environment?

A private version of your site for testing changes before visitors see them. Builders like Lovable give you preview URLs automatically — use them; never test in production.

Should I use a website builder or custom code?

Builders win on speed and hosting; custom code wins on total control. With AI tools the gap has narrowed — an AI-built custom site (with a StudioMotion theme as the base) gives you both speed and ownership.

How much does a website cost to run?

A domain (~$10–20/year), hosting (free to ~$20/month for most sites), and any subscriptions you choose. The expensive part of websites was never the hosting — it was the design, which is what AI plus a theme library now compresses.

When is my site 'done'?

Never, and that is fine. Launch when the core promise works end to end, then improve in public. A launched imperfect site beats a perfect unreleased one every single time.

Analytics and measuring your site

What analytics should I install on my site?

One privacy-respecting analytics tool (StudioMotion uses Google Analytics 4) is enough to start. You need to know where visitors come from, what they view, and where they leave — nothing fancier until you have traffic.

What metrics actually matter for a new site?

Visitors, their source, and the completion rate of your one key action (purchase, signup, booking). Everything else is refinement. Watch trends weekly, not daily.

What is a conversion rate and how do I compute it?

The share of visitors who complete your goal: conversions divided by visitors. If 1,000 people visit and 30 buy, your conversion rate is 3%. Improve the page, then watch the number move.

What is bounce rate and should I worry about it?

The share of visitors who leave without interacting. High bounce on a landing page means the promise and the audience are mismatched; high bounce on a blog post that answers the question is fine.

How do I know which marketing works?

Utm-tagged links for every campaign, then check which sources produce conversions — not just visits. Traffic that never converts is an expense, not a result.

What are heatmaps and session recordings?

Tools that show where visitors click and how they scroll. Useful once you have steady traffic and a specific question ('why does nobody reach the pricing section?'), overkill before that.

How long until I can trust my analytics?

Weeks, not days. Small numbers lie: a 50% conversion rate from four visitors is noise. Make decisions on patterns over hundreds of visits.

What is an A/B test and when should I run one?

Showing two versions of a page to different visitors and measuring which converts better. Worthwhile once you have thousands of monthly visitors; before that, just make the obviously better version.

Should I track everything my users do?

No. Track what you will act on, respect privacy laws (consent banners where required), and remember that data you do not need is a liability you chose.

What is the most useful analytics habit?

A weekly fifteen-minute review: top pages, top sources, goal completions, one thing to improve. Analytics you never look at are decoration.

Security and privacy for your site

What security basics does every website need?

HTTPS everywhere, a modern platform or framework kept updated, strong unique passwords with two-factor authentication on your admin accounts, and no sensitive data in client-side code.

Do I need a privacy policy?

Yes — if you collect emails, run analytics, or take payments, privacy laws (GDPR and others) require you to say what you collect and why. StudioMotion's own policy is at /privacy if you want a reference for what one covers.

Do I need a cookie banner?

If you use non-essential cookies (analytics, ads) and have visitors in the EU/UK, yes — consent is required before those cookies load. Keep the banner honest: a real 'reject' option, not dark patterns.

What is GDPR in one paragraph?

The EU's data protection law: collect only what you need, say what you collect, get consent for tracking, let people see and delete their data, and keep it secure. It applies to you if you have European visitors, wherever you are based.

How do I keep customer data safe?

Collect the minimum, use established providers for payments and auth (never build your own), restrict who can access what, and delete data you no longer need. The safest data is the data you never stored.

Should I ever store passwords or card numbers myself?

Never. Use a proven auth provider for accounts and a payment processor (like Stripe) for cards. Handling either yourself is a liability with no upside.

What is two-factor authentication and do I need it?

A second proof (usually your phone) beyond your password. Yes — on your email, your hosting, your payment processor and your admin accounts. It stops the most common account-takeover attacks cold.

How do I handle a security problem on my site?

Contain first (take the affected part offline if needed), assess what was exposed, fix the cause, then inform affected users honestly and quickly. A fast honest response preserves more trust than the incident destroys.

Are AI-built sites secure?

The code is as secure as what it is built on — the risks are the same as any site: exposed keys, weak auth, outdated dependencies. Review what the AI writes before shipping, especially anything touching data or payments.

What should never go in my website's code?

Secret API keys, passwords, and private customer data. Anything shipped to the browser is public — keys belong in server-side environment variables, exactly as StudioMotion's own architecture does.

Freelancers, agencies and client work

Can I use StudioMotion for client projects?

Yes — building real websites for clients is exactly what the licenses cover. You may not resell or redistribute the source code itself as a competing template or theme product.

How do I price a website for a client?

Price the outcome, not the hours: what is a working site worth to their business? Fixed project prices with a clear scope beat hourly billing for both sides once you are fast.

How do AI tools change freelance web design?

They compress production time, which shifts your value to judgment: strategy, taste, client management, and knowing what good looks like. The freelancers who thrive sell decisions, not keystrokes.

What should a web design proposal include?

The client's goal restated in their words, the scope (pages, features, revisions), the timeline, the price, and what happens when scope changes. Proposals that mirror the client's language win.

How many revision rounds should I offer?

Two structured rounds, defined in writing. Unlimited revisions sound generous and produce miserable projects; structured feedback produces better work faster.

How do I show clients design concepts?

One strong direction, presented as a working page — not three static mockups. A live, animated page (built fast with a theme) out-sells a Figma board every time.

What do I do when a client hates the design?

Ask what feeling they expected and what the design must achieve, not what colors they like. Clients are experts on their business; your job is translating their goals into design decisions, not taking dictation.

Should I maintain client sites after launch?

Yes, as a paid care plan: updates, backups, small changes, analytics check-ins. Recurring revenue stabilizes a studio, and clients who pay for care get better outcomes.

How do I find my first web design clients?

Build something excellent for someone in your existing network at a friend price, document it as a case study, and let that proof find the next one. Portfolios find clients; cold emails rarely do.

What makes an agency-grade website?

Strategy before pixels, a real design system, motion with intent, performance discipline, and content that sounds like the brand. Agency grade is a process, not a price tag — and it is the standard StudioMotion themes are built to.

Web design glossary

What is a hero section?

The top section of a page — the first thing visitors see. It carries your headline, key visual and primary call to action, and it decides whether anyone scrolls.

What is a call to action (CTA)?

The button or link that asks the visitor to do the thing your page exists for: buy, book, sign up. Every page should have one obvious primary CTA.

What is a design token?

A named design value — a color, font size or spacing unit — stored once and referenced everywhere. Tokens are what make a whole site changeable from one place.

What is responsive design?

Design that adapts to any screen size: one codebase that reflows from phone to desktop. It is the default expectation, not a feature.

What is a component?

A reusable piece of interface — a button, a card, a navbar — defined once and used everywhere. Component thinking is what keeps large sites consistent.

What is a landing page?

A page built for one audience and one action, usually the destination of an ad or campaign. Unlike a homepage, it has no navigation escape hatches — it exists to convert.

What is above the fold?

The portion of the page visible before scrolling, a term borrowed from newspapers. Your most important message must live there.

What is a favicon?

The small icon in the browser tab. A tiny detail that makes a site feel finished — and its absence makes a site feel abandoned.

What is a CMS?

A content management system — software for editing site content without touching code. Useful when non-technical people update the site often; overkill for sites that change rarely.

What is Tailwind CSS?

A utility-first CSS framework where styles are applied as small composable classes. It is the styling system StudioMotion themes and sections are built with, which makes them easy for AI tools and developers to adapt.

What is React?

The most widely used JavaScript library for building interfaces from components. StudioMotion themes are React projects, so any AI tool or developer can work with them.

What is lazy loading?

Deferring the loading of images, video or heavy components until they are actually needed — usually when they scroll near the viewport. It is one of the biggest easy performance wins.

Social media and getting discovered

Which social platform should my business be on?

The one where your buyers already spend attention: Instagram and TikTok for visual products, LinkedIn for B2B, X and Reddit for developer and maker audiences. One platform done well beats five abandoned profiles.

How often should I post on social media?

As often as you can sustain quality — for most small brands that is two to four times a week. A rhythm you can keep for a year beats a burst that dies in a month.

What content actually drives traffic to a website?

Show the work: short videos of the product or process, before-and-afters, genuine lessons learned. Posts that teach or prove something get saved and shared; posts that just announce get scrolled past.

Should I share my website launch on Reddit?

Yes, but as a human, not an ad: share what you built, why, and what was hard, in communities you genuinely participate in (r/SideProject, r/webdev, niche subreddits). Reddit punishes marketing and rewards honesty.

Do short videos work for marketing a website or product?

Extremely well — five to ten second clips showing the product, the design in motion, or a single striking result. Motion is your differentiator, so let people see it move.

How do I get my first visitors with no audience?

Go where your audience already is: communities, directories, marketplaces and search. For design tools specifically, MCP directories (Smithery, Glama, PulseMCP) deliver targeted, permanent discovery for zero budget.

Is it worth paying for ads early?

Only after your page converts organically — ads amplify what works; they cannot fix a page that does not. Start with small tests on the platform where your audience is densest.

How do I write a social post that does not sound like an ad?

Lead with the thing, not the pitch: show the result, share the lesson, ask a real question. If the post would interest you from a stranger, it will interest strangers from you.

What is building in public?

Sharing your progress, numbers and lessons openly as you build. It works because it compounds: every post is both marketing and proof, and the audience you gather becomes your first customers.

Should my website and social profiles match?

Yes — same name, same visual identity, same voice. The journey from a post to your site should feel like walking from the street into the same shop, not a different building.

How do I turn social followers into customers?

Give them a reason to visit (a launch, a guide, an offer), make the landing page match the post that brought them, and capture emails so the relationship survives the algorithm.

What is the best free marketing for a new website?

Answering real questions where your audience asks them — communities, forums, comment sections — with genuine help and a site worth visiting behind your name. It is slow, free, and it compounds.
